Mentor FAQs
-
Yes! As a mentor you will get paid for every conversation you have with aspiring college athletes.
-
You can mentor as many or as few athletes as you’d like — it’s completely up to you! As a mentor, you set your own availability, and athletes will book time slots based on the schedule you share in the system. This way, you have full control and flexibility over when and how often you connect with aspiring student-athletes.
-
Mentors receive a short onboarding guide that outlines best practices, conversation tips, and suggested topics to cover during sessions. We also provide example questions and conversation starters to help you guide meaningful discussions.
-
You’ll mainly share your experience with your college program — what daily life is like as a student-athlete, how to balance academics and sports, what the team culture is like, and tips for the recruiting process. Many athletes will also want advice on what they can do now to prepare for college-level competition.
-
You’ll set your availability in our scheduling system. Athletes book sessions based on the time slots you open. You’ll receive email notifications for new bookings and reminders, giving you plenty of advance notice.
-
Yes — we provide a simple framework for sessions, including how to introduce yourself, how to learn about the athlete’s goals, and how to share insights in an open, supportive way. You’re encouraged to keep the tone casual and authentic, like an older teammate giving advice.
-
Our support team is here to help with any issues or questions. You can reach out at any time for guidance, and we’ll check in regularly to make sure you feel supported and comfortable in your role.
-
No — you have full control over your schedule and how many sessions you take on. Some mentors do a few sessions each month; others do more during less busy parts of their season or school year.
-
If something comes up, you can easily reschedule or cancel a session through the system. We just ask that you do so as early as possible so the athlete can find another time that works.
-
After each session, athletes have the option to leave feedback about what they found helpful and how their experience was. We share this with you to highlight what’s going well and to help you keep improving.
-
Yes — we’re building a mentor community where you can share experiences, ask questions, and swap ideas with other college athletes mentoring through the program.
-
Absolutely, it’s encouraged! We love when mentors share their insights. You can volunteer to write short pieces or tips for our email guides, which help high school athletes learn about recruiting, communicating with coaches, and college life.
